Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is a continuation of the popular role-playing series, set in our modern world. It's an average day, as a typical Japanese high school student goes to the hospital, for a visit with his sick teacher. While on the train, he gets a mysterious vision that the Apocalypse is coming. Arriving at the hospital, the boy is sucked into a Vortex Field, into a dark mirror-image of his world. When he learns our world is ending to make room for this new one, he'll do what he can to get back home and (hopefully) stop the Apocalypse.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best games I have ever played   August 28, 2010
Eric A. Hartwell
I'm a huge console RPG fan. Have been since the nes days. Since I've gotten older (26) it becomes harder and harder for me to find games that blow me away like some games did when I was younger. This game did. I didn't even know this game existed for years until I saw it on Amazon and thought I would try it. I can't say enough great things about this game. To shortly sum up why I like it so much.

1) Not for kids - an RPG geared to adults
2) Story
3) Battle System
4) Ability to have demons join your party and create new demons by fusing others. The combinations are astounding.
5) Multiple Endings
6) Music- very industrial/hard rock
7) Graphic Style
8)Length of game and side quests- I have put in over 100hrs on this game. The last game I played that much was FFVII. If you loved FFVII you will love this game.

This is the most under-estimated and under-appreciated game I can think of. One of the best.

3 out of 5 stars Alot of potential if you have saint-like patience   May 7, 2010

I love the SMT series Persona games but all of these games have 1 thing in common: massive grinding time. Nocturne is no exception and seems to have more grind time than any other game I've ever played. I never actually finished the game because I simply don't have enough time in my day. Nonetheless, I can see where the game has potential in its interesting plot.

5 out of 5 stars Best RPG ever.   April 23, 2010

I'll keep this review fairly short because nobody likes reading sixteen paragraph reviews. This game is one of the best RPG's ever. Its dark, has very mature concepts, great art, fun puzzles, challenging bosses, seven endings, and the sheer combination of different demons you can make can only be described as Pokemon on crackroids. This game also has some old school feel to it but the combat system is above and beyond any other RPG I have ever played. Very customizable party options and the main character also has thousands of possibilities of builds. You can make your character excel using any possible combination of abilities from physical attacks to fire, ice, or status ailments. Play through the game once on normal, if you can manage to figure out the bosses/puzzles without a strategy guide, then try on hard as you can port over your characters to the new game. Hard is no joke in this game either.

5 out of 5 stars Buy This Game!   April 5, 2010

I have played pretty much EVERY RPG for PS2... this games trumps most of them. (I am partial to the AI system in FF XII.) Nocturne is a very in depth game. You go through the game defeating demons after the destruction of Tokyo. However, you also get the demons to join your party, which is pretty simple to do, and then fuse them together to create more powerful demons to fight by your side. Most RPG's you get 5-8 characters who fight with you throughout the game. Nocturne gives you hundreds, literally. It's always new, always exciting because your new demons all have different abilities and levels of strength and magic. It NEVER gets old and dull. The story is OK, but this game is really not all about the story. The game is also HUGE. There are tons of levels and different areas to go through.

4 out of 5 stars Love it!   March 15, 2010

I bought this game based on the strong reviews, but I really didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. While this is a difficult game (God bless the walkthrough), it's not as tough as some of these reviews make it sound. If you just employ some common sense re. which demons to keep intact and which to fuse, and if you remember to save at every opportunity, you will persevere. Honestly, I *love* this game. The demons are interesting (and based on various mythologies, so lots of nerd bonus), the gameplay is invigorating, and the overall story, while a bit vague, keeps you hooked. I'm more into fighting and exploration RPG's than strategy RPG's, but I've been playing this game obsessively for the last two weeks nonetheless. So I guess whatever RPG you're into, you'll like this one!
