Product Description
Action RPG. Sequel to Parasite Eve

Amazon.com Review
Three years ago, gamers were introduced to Aya as she resigned from the New York Police Department and enlisted as a NMC (neo-mitochondrion creature) hunter for the shadowy government organization M.I.S.T., a secret agency of monster slayers somewhere between Ghostbusters and Men in Black. Wherever there was a neo-mitochondrion outbreak, Aya and her team were on the scene to put the boots to the mutants. From the outset, it's evident that SquareSoft revamped the entire game to give gamers a better looking, sounding, and (most importantly) playing experience.

The game starts with Aya training in the agency's shooting gallery in Los Angeles. Just as she begins to get in a groove, she is asked to look into some strange happenings at the Akropolis Tower. When she arrives on the scene, an explosive, full-motion video flashes across the screen and showcases the death and carnage as Aya surveys the scene. Her entry into the Tower is where this RPG begins.

SquareSoft has kept some of the excellent elements of the weapons systems from the first Parasite Eve title, but went for an entirely new battle system. Combat is delivered in real time and allows players to run, hide, and open fire. Aya can tap into her parasitic powers and can unleash elemental, magic-based attacks on the many foes she encounters. Ammunition is plentiful in the game and there are plenty of entertaining weapons to choose from. Auto targeting and involving puzzles are back, though the arrow-pointing interface for solving these puzzles is really hard to operate.

The cinematic mix of story and action is very well done, and the numerous cutscenes do an excellent job of moving the pace along in a believable way.

Even though the original Parasite Eve had its problems, SquareSoft has pieced together an excellent sequel that will satisfy fans of the first game and help create many new ones. --Todd Mowatt

Pros:

  • New, real-time battle system is an improvement over first Parasite Eve
  • Great weapons and plentiful ammunition
  • Great mix of story and action
Cons:
  • Clunky interface for solving puzzles

5 out of 5 stars If Resident evil and FFVII had a baby.....   June 3, 2010
Deric Northrup (BORING, OR, US)
It would be this game! This game is great compared to PE1, it has all the action the resident evil game(s) has including the suspense, spies, same controls and sorta undead enemies mixed with adventure and classic RPG rules. You get to be a spell caster and a have a gun! Several different types of guns (Not gonna say or it will ruin the fun) it is a must own for any RPGer or someone looking for something new and just loved the RE series. Period.

3 out of 5 stars I expected so much more   September 11, 2009

While the gameplay (in terms of controls and difficulty) is similar to the first, I am disappointed about how generic the story line and script is. The first one was intriguing, creepy and well thought out with story and characters while this one has shallowed out Aya and then there are the characters that show up once and you never really deal with them again. It's not a bad game and it has some good moments; I recommend playing it if you're interested; just don't expect it to go beyond the first one.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not Great   December 15, 2008

Parasite Eve 2 removed everything that was wrong with the first one but left only one thing that i couldn't get over. Controlling Aya was a pain, I thought this was really the only down point of the game. I like how there was no leveling up or active time bar to wait to shoot. Also The graphics are awesome and the story will entertain.

However I did enjoy Parasite Eve 1 better than 2. Overall this is a very good game and does a good job on continuing the microchondria eve story.

Not Resident Evil. Although it may seem a lot alike, its not. This game is a little easier and has what I think a little bit of a better story than Resident Evil, there is some fact behind the whole microchondria eve where as Zombies are always used to try and scare.

3 out of 5 stars Good as a stand alone title--Terrible as a sequel   February 17, 2008
D. Mccright (California)
Straight to the point, the series started off as a chilling and entertaining RPG with an real time battle flare and ended up as a Resident Evil cloned sequel.

The series could have ended with the first Parasite Eve, but Squaresoft decided to continue the series.

What resulted was a sequel who's only tie to the original is really the main character and the use of her Parasite Energy.

Take Aya Brea, Resident Evil style gameplay, and her parasite abilities and you basically have Parasite Eve II. Its Resident Evil with special powers. That can go one of two ways--look at it as a stand alone game or survival horror game if you like, love, or are interested in the Resident Evil series; or, you can hate, loathe, dislike, or bear it as the terrible sequel that surfaced.

On the plus side, the interactive environments are a nice touch as they create a strategic approach in battles. You can find all kinds of weaponry to find the best possible way to deal with bosses. The Parasite Abilities mentioned above do add some strategy to the game as well.

Its a tough call. As stated before, you either love it as a STAND ALONE title or hate is as a SEQUEL.

Breakdown-

Good:
-Gameplay
-Graphics
-Cutscenes
-Stand Alone title

Bad:
-Sequel
-Nothing Like its predecessor
-Storyline
-Characters

Question:
-What made Squaresoft decide to go with a Resident Evil style approach?
