5 out of 5 stars Great Classic For SNES   April 26, 2010
After getting this game locally (unused, still in box with wrap in it) for 5$, and playing it for about 2 hrs, I was very amazed at the music, graphics and gameplay of this game. The music is very good for the SNES,(almost as good as Final Fantasy 3, same place and naerly the same condtion) but there are some SFX gltiches when you get hit and are charging ( it cancels out the charge sound). The sprites are very detailed and some enemies have a special thing that happens when a certain weapon is used (Hint: Armored Armadillo + ? = Fried). The controls are responsive, but sometimes you can point in the wrong direction if you are not focused. This is one of the most BEATABLE Mega Man games I have ever had ( VS X4 and MM8 for PS1). The Story is not too deep, but near the end has a little surprise! There is also a tiny bit of slowdown in Storm Eagle's stage and a few others too ( more with Armored Armadillo's). I really am happy to be able to add this to my "collection" of old games; but the game is rather short (First playthrough 6hrs, with nearly all the things and no walkthroughs).

5 out of 5 stars Charge up your buster, we're off to hunt some Mavericks!   June 23, 2009

This game is pretty much one of the best games off all time.
First off the story isn't very complicated, BUT they could have at least explained the characters a bit more.
The point is, your X, a robot created by Dr Thomas light. (same creator as the original Mega man)You were endowed with the ability to think for yourself, like humans. You were found by Dr Cain, and he made other robots like you, but the first one he made-Sigma- has gone maverick, like other reploids, and he has got some of the other members of the maverick hunters to rebel, and prove that Reploids are superior to humans. So you have to go and destroy all of the mavericks(including Sigma).

The gameplay is simple yet fun.
You go to a stage, beat a maverick and get their weapon, then go to another stage and use the weapon you just got to defeat them then go to sigma's fortress, destroy all of the reploids and robots there and destroy him.
You move by using the D-Pad,jump with the b button, blast through things with the X buster by pressing the pre X button, and once you obtain the leg upgrade press A to dash(controls can be changed in options though)

The game is fairly difficult, but not as much as other games in the Series, or the MM franchise in general, but it's difficult enough to be a challenge.

I personally have beaten the game over 10 times, it's that fun.(for me at least)

Another thing you may or may not know about the Mega man Franchise.
The music is AWESOME. I've memorized most of the tracks in the game by just playing it.(spark mandrill and the boss theme are my favorites)

Though the game isn't as complicated as future games, it still holds through the test of time.

Overall I'd give this game a perfect score.(though i am a huge MM classic and X fan)

I would recommend this game to platform gamers or just people trying to find good classic games :)

5 out of 5 stars Mega Man Grows Up!   July 2, 2008

I first spotted this title at Blockbuster Video on sale brand new, unaware that there was even such a title. Needless to say, I harriedly scooped it up and walked steadfastly to the counter to pay. Got it home, and I was pleasantly surprised with the new direction.

At first, I thought that the "X" was roman numeral for 10, thinking that 3 other titles had been released sinceMM6 without me knowing it and then I realized that X is simply the name given to this new MM model. Anyway, enough minutae...this title is solid. X introduces the ability to acquire different armors and varios vital upgrades such as rocket boosts for X's feet, an improved mega buster, and helmet. In fact, some ares in specific stages cannot be accessed unless you are in possession of one of these advanced upgrades. This series also introduces the ability for X to scale walls, a necessary new twist for some areas.

The other major departure from the original series is that your main antagonist is no longer Dr. Wily: this time, it is a sinister "reploid" named "Sigma", as in, the last letter of the greek alphabet. Also, the robot masters no longer have the "man" suffix (ex: Flame Mammoth, Chill Penguin), which is actually cool. The battles are also varied as opposed to the initially predictable battles of years passed: most of the bosses have two different types of attacks that they use (ex: Storm Egale dives from the sky and shoots a horizontal tornado-like wind gust when he is land bound. This game also marks the first appearance of the dynamic ally Zero as well as the new "ride armor", which allows X to pilot a headless robot with huge arms and hands allowing him the ability to break stuff and access areas that the normal X couldn't.

Another great addition is the incorporation of heart containers. These containers serve to increase your vitality ever so much (about 4 bars). There are 8 to find in all and locating them only adds to the fun factor and advanced gameplay. There is a secret power up familiar to those of you who are street fighter fans, but...I won't spoil it for you here. It's a secret!

Anyway, just go get this game if you don't already own it. Or, pick up Mega Man X Collection for the 5th generation systems. It's a gem.

Great music and gameplay. Perhaps the best part is the setting. The cartoonish robotic world is forever entertaining. You'll have to play this game a long time before it gets dull.
